The air cooler: the ecological and economical solution for a cool home.

Easier to install, more economical and more ecological than air conditioning, more efficient than a simple fan, the air cooler is the right solution for all those who care about the environment and their comfort. O’Fresh ‘s professional expertise and advice will enable you to choose the appliance best suited to your needs and desires for fresh air.

What is an air freshener?

How does it work?

This mobile device cools a room by emitting cool air. This lowers the temperature and makes the ambient air more breathable. It works on the simple principle of evaporative cooling: warm air drawn in is converted into fresh air by passing through the humidifier pad. Water is regularly poured into the humidifier’s reservoir to keep it permanently humid, ensuring that the air in your home is always pleasant.

The fact that it’s mobile makes it very practical to use. You don’t need any special knowledge to use an air freshener. Installed on a flat surface, it plugs into the mains. However, be sure to read the instructions supplied with your unit before using it for the first time. Its relative size makes this device a discreet object.

Please note: keep your air freshener well away from furniture and electrical appliances, and do not point it towards a wall. As it propels humid air, it could encourage mold and mildew, and damage your household appliances.

Is an air freshener effective?

The efficiency of an air cooler has been proven. Its basic operation makes it reliable. To optimize its efficiency, your choice will depend on the room in which you wish to install it. The size of the reservoir will determine the autonomy time according to the dimensions of the room to be cooled. Note that to cool a room of around 35 m2, you’ll need a unit with a 4 to 5-liter tank. Your choice will also take into account the capacity to cool a room, i.e. the flow of fresh air expelled (m3 /hour). For a standard air cooler, this is 150m3/h.

Please note: this device is recommended for surfaces up to 35-40 m2.

How to choose the right air freshener?

It’s how you use it that will determine the different options you’ll be sensitive to in terms of efficiency. You can filter, ionize and humidify the ambient air. Models are available with or without remote control, with or without timer, with or without night silence mode, and with varying degrees of power. Most air fresheners now come with a cooling pack: maximum efficiency for optimum comfort.

Note: price is not necessarily a criterion of efficiency, but be sure to think of your purchase as an investment, and avoid entry-level products.

How do I maintain an air freshener?

Your air cooler needs to be cleaned from time to time to maintain its performance. Once again, it’s simple and you can do it yourself. First of all, unplug your unit.

The humidifier pad: clean it by rinsing it under clear water at least once a month. If your water is hard, you’ll need to change it more often to avoid losing efficiency. When you’re not using your machine, remove the pad. If damp, it could become a breeding ground for bacteria and mildew.

The water tank: remember to clean and drain the water tank regularly with a damp sponge containing white vinegar and washing-up liquid, for effective cleaning against organic and mineral elements naturally present in the water. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry before replacing everything. If you’re not using your air freshener for a few days in very hot weather, remember to change the water in the reservoir before operating it again.

Air filter: remove dust and rinse with lukewarm water. Make sure it is completely dry before repositioning. Don’t forget to wipe the uprights supporting the filter with a slightly damp cloth. Proceed in the same way at the end of the summer season.

Outside walls: use a damp sponge to remove stains and dirt. Wipe with a soft cloth.

Please note: before using your air freshener for the first time in the summer, and after several months’ storage, you should “spring clean” it.

A real ecological and economical alternative.

By using no refrigerants, unlike air conditioners, the air cooler produces no greenhouse gases, making it the ecological champion. The cooling process is natural. With its low energy consumption (more or less 100 Watts are needed to cool 25 to 30 square meters), the air cooler contributes to the energy management of your home in an ecological and economical way (it uses 20 times less electricity to operate than an air conditioner). It also saves you money, as it requires no installation work like an air-conditioner.

Note: unlike air conditioning, you can enjoy your air freshener with your windows wide open.

Little extras to know :

An air freshener is a device that uses pumps and fans, resulting in some unavoidable noise pollution. So if you’re planning to use it in your bedroom, turn it on before bedtime, and if it’s available, use the night mode.

Its quality/price ratio makes it an interesting alternative for small budgets, with prices ranging from 50 to 250 euros.
With its castors and carrying handles, it’s the champion of mobility. You can set it up wherever you like and cool the rooms you’re in. Just be careful not to spill the water in the unit’s reservoir.
