This is a process that has been gaining ground in recent years, with applications in a variety of sectors. But what exactly is misting? Let’s take a brief look at this technique, with a definition of misting and its applications.
What is it?
Misting is the action of dispersing a liquid into a mist of fine droplets. Misting is performed using a misting system and pressurized liquid. Water is often misted. In this case, the pressurized water is directed against a perforated bung, which separates the drops into even smaller droplets. This process has many applications.
What’s the point?
The main benefit is to lower the temperature of a room by increasing its humidity level. Water droplets are so fine that they don’t actually wet surfaces, but cool the air or surfaces they come into contact with and evaporate. Brumatization can easily cool the air by 5 to 10°C.
Who uses it?
In the early days, misting systems were used mainly in industry to cool hot mechanisms or engines. Today, it’s mainly used to increase the humidity of an area, or for high-pressure cleaning using a smaller quantity of liquid. Widely used in gardening, misting systems deliver a quantity of water that is less traumatic for plants and easier for them to assimilate. In greenhouses or supermarkets, misting cools down the atmosphere, which tends to heat up, and thus ensures better preservation of fresh produce. Fogging is also used to fight fires or improve air quality by reducing dust in enclosed spaces, or to reduce odors.
