Summer 2017 review: heatwave and misting systems!

The summer of 2017 was rich in heat peaks: average temperatures in June and July 2017 were the hottest on record since 1900, just behind those in the summer of 2003. To protect themselves against heatwaves, people are adapting and adopting new strategies.

A hot, hot summer 2017!

With the heat wave that swept across France from June 18 to 22, summer got off to a flying start. This early heatwave will remain the most striking episode of a summer that was, on average, very hot. Temperatures remained more reasonable in July, but Julyers still had their heat peaks on July 18 and 19, with highs of 38°C in the south-west and new night-time records: up to 22.9°C in Blois and 23.7°C in Nemours in the middle of the night. As for Augusters, they too had to endure the heatwave at the beginning of the month, provided they had chosen the south-east as their vacation destination: the temperature didn’t fall below 38°C in Marseille on the night of July 31!

Deckchairs are even set up on site, allowing residents to leave their overheated homes and relax or read in the cool. The quantities of water used are minimal over the course of a day’s use. The municipal misting system has a bright future ahead of it.
